The Buenos Aires Herald invites English language journalists and
students of journalism to apply for internships and staff positions
on our paper.

Founded 124 years ago, The Buenos Aires Herald is South America's
biggest English language newspaper. A general interest newspaper,
convering both Argentine and world news (Argentine politics,
world news, business and finance, entertainment and sports), the
Herald has a proud tradition of independence and integrity, which has
earned the paper a reputation that far exceeds its
size.

Staff Positions

Occasionally the Herald has an opening on its permanent staff for
experienced journalists. Those positions require a minimum
commitment of at least one year.


Staff reporters are responsible for researching and writing articles;
attending press conference, expositions and conferences; assembling
and
translating articles from Spanish language news agencies; proofreading
articles; and managing all aspectes of page layout and design.

The minimum commitment for a staff reporter recruited from outside
Argentina is one year. Staff reporters are expected to work a minimum
of 40 hours a week (five days a week).

Excellent Spanish language skills are essential for staff reporters.

Staff reporters recruited from outside the country are considered
contract employees and paid between 700 and 1,000 dollars a month. A
staff reporter is expected to obtain a taxpayer identification number
and pay self-employment taxes (around 7% of gross pay). Upon
completion of his or her first year, a staff reporter receives a bonus
as well as a raise, the amounts of which are determined when the
salary
is negotiated.

Contract employees are responsible for their own living,
transportation
and other expenses, including medical coverage.
